When
it comes to the beauty industry, without e-marking, beauty products would not
be so popular as they are now. For instance, YouTube has had the biggest impact
on beauty related products because of vloggers advertising products. Companies
usually contact them and send them items to review for their viewers. Most
viewers believe every single opinion and off they go buying the product.
E-marketing
has changed at least one step of buying decision process for ULTA and Sephora
(makeup stores) . Vloggers and Bloggers share their opinions and right after
they do, they go straight to these stores and purchase these items. Sometimes
the people reviewing the items might be lying because they paid them to say
what the company wanted to say. That doesn’t stop anyone from purchasing the
items though. I am totally guilty of doing so! Everyday there’s something new
and it makes you want to try it out!
As
for social media marketing, I believe the best way to influence a particular
step of the buying decision process would be adding COUPONS! People LOVE
coupons. Even if it’s a coupon for free shipping or 10% off. Once someone sees
that they can save money, they will most likely purchase something.
Without
E-marketing, sales would definitely wouldn’t be as high as they are because
products wouldn’t be advertised as they are doing now. People would only see
commercials instead of listening to people go into depth of the product, or
having them try it out themselves and giving viewers first impressions.
Hi Roxanna,
ReplyDeleteGreat post, very interesting. May sound weird coming from a guy but I touched ont he beauty industry this past summer as I did my internship with P&G. As part of the summer, I had to see how effective their e-marketing efforts were for their Covergirl brand. By using analytics, I calculated the sales lift that the brand incurred after every promotion. Through this experience i learned of how trackable e-marketing can be. Through the tracking, you can leverage the information to ultimatley influence the buyer's decision making process.
I really liked your post! Beauty and fashion are so similar in terms of the buying process so I could relate to your thoughts on the topic. I agree that coupons are such a wonderful tool to encourage consumers to buy something. Whether it is a major necessity or they just decided to buy it, coupons are a great way to make a sale from a marketing perspective. I also liked how you mentioned youtube bloggers. That is such a big part of the buying process nowadays and can be a great tool for the consumer if the product is reviewed in an honest manner.
ReplyDeleteCool blog Roxanna. Although I dont have much experience with the purchase process your take on it made it clear to see how it has changed for you or others who purchase beauty products. Its is cool to see how all companies are utilizing YouTube, and Facebook, and even blogging sites to advertise or share experiences that will spark a connection with consumer. This was a good read.
ReplyDeleteThe Youtube tie-in/sponsorship is really interesting and unique. I'm a guy but I've seen quite a few videos by "beauty gurus" on Youtube (the complete transformations they do is so fascinating to me) so these make up brands have extended their message reach to an audience they never accounted for. I know next to nothing about make up brands so if I ever need to buy make up as a gift or something, the brands I'll recognize (and most likely purchase) will be the ones I saw on the Youtube videos. This is such an ingenious marketing strategy and it impresses me so much.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think coupons are a great marketing technique to get people to at least try your item. Maybe someone thought your item is too expensive, but a 10% off coupon might change their mind in trying it out, especially something like a beauty product. And then after the initial desire/need is fulfilled, the quality of your product will have that person coming back for more regardless of price. So I totally agree about the coupons.
